Following these five simple rules any one can create a great logo design. There is no strict set of rules but these are the general principles that all design artists should rely on.
1. The most important design rule that any one has ever learned is the KISS rule. Which demands the designer to Keep It Simple Silly. The simplicity doesn't mean a quick design with no smart ideas in it. Simplicity means a design that is easy to understand and effectively serves the purpose.
2. A logo design is useless if it is not unique. Try to avoide cliches and stereotypes and go beyond your imagination to come up with a unique idea.
3. Take full advantage of colors. We the human race is attracted to colors like moth to flies, colors have huge impact on how we see things and how we act and behave. But don't go overboard with colors, find the perfect balance that could spark a favorable interest or emotion among the viewers.
4. Don't cheat yourself by borrowing ideas from different logos and combining them into your new logo design. This only creates an awful mess that no one likes because no matter what you do popular brands have very strong recognition you can't hide the resemblance.
5. Don't forget the message. The purpose of the logo design is to tell people about a business, product, services or a brand. It needs to exactly describe what that business or brand is about and it should also attempt to generate a positive image.
